Passport & ID Photo Resizer
Most countries use a 35×45 mm passport photo (413×531 px at 300 DPI); the US uses 2×2 inches (600×600 px). Pick a size, choose your photo, line your head up with the guide and save a JPG that also meets the file-size limit. Your photo is processed on this device and never uploaded.
Passport and ID photo sizes (at 300 DPI)
| Preset | Size | Pixels | Common uses |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passport / ID | 35×45 mm | 413×531 px | Passports and visas for the UK, EU/Schengen, India, Australia, Korea and many other countries |
| US passport & visa | 2×2 in (51×51 mm) | 600×600 px | US passport, DS-160 visa application (max 240 KB) |
| Small ID | 3×4 cm | 354×472 px | Résumés, student and exam applications in some countries |
| Large | 5×7 cm | 591×827 px | Certificates, prints |
Pixels = cm ÷ 2.54 × 300 (DPI). For example, 3.5 cm ÷ 2.54 × 300 ≈ 413 px. If the site you are applying on lists different pixel dimensions, use theirs with the "Custom" option.
Typical passport photo rules
- Taken within the last 6 months, in color, facing the camera with a neutral expression
- Plain light background (white or off-white in most countries), no shadows
- No retouching or filters; no tinted glasses

How to resize a passport photo
- Choose a photo above. On a phone, pick it straight from your gallery; on a computer, drag it in or paste it (Ctrl+V).
- Pick a size (35×45 mm, 3×4 cm, 5×7 cm, US 2×2 in, or custom pixels), then drag and zoom so the top of the head and the chin sit on the dotted guide lines.
- If the application site has a file-size limit, choose it (500, 300, 200 or 100 KB). The photo is saved at the best quality that fits.
- Click "Save JPG" to upload it, or "Print sheet" to get a 4×6 inch (10×15 cm) sheet you can print at a photo kiosk or online and cut out.
FAQ
What size is a passport photo in pixels?
At 300 DPI: 35×45 mm = 413×531 px (used for UK, EU/Schengen, India, Australia, Korea and many other countries), 2×2 inches = 600×600 px (US passport and visa), 3×4 cm = 354×472 px and 5×7 cm = 591×827 px. If the site you are applying on lists exact pixels, enter them under "Custom".
How big should my head be in a passport photo?
For 35×45 mm photos the chin-to-crown height is set by each country — for example 29–34 mm in the UK and 32–36 mm in Schengen countries. For US 2×2 in photos the head must be 50–69% of the image height. The dotted guide sits in the middle of these ranges, so aligning the crown and chin with it gets you close — but the issuing authority makes the final call.
How do I make a US visa (DS-160) photo?
Choose "US passport & visa": the photo is cropped to a 600×600 px square and the size limit is set to 200 KB (the State Department allows up to 240 KB). The head guide matches the required 50–69% of the image height.
Will compressing to 200 KB ruin the quality?
No. A 413×531 px photo is usually around 100 KB even at top quality, so most limits are easy to meet. When you choose a limit, the highest quality that fits is picked automatically and the result shows the real file size. If it can’t fit even at the lowest quality, you’ll see a warning — reduce the pixel size.
Can it change my background to white?
This tool only crops, resizes and compresses — the background stays as it is. To get a plain white background, run the photo through the Background Remover first. Note that some passport offices reject digitally edited photos, so check their rules.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Cropping, resizing and compression all happen in your browser and the photo never leaves your device. The saved JPG contains no GPS location or camera metadata.
Why does 300 DPI matter?
Printers and some upload portals use the DPI stored in the file to work out the physical size. The saved JPG records 300 DPI, so a 413×531 px photo prints at exactly 35×45 mm. Phone photos are often tagged 72 DPI and print at the wrong size.
Can I print passport photos at home or a kiosk?
Yes. "Print sheet" lays out several copies on one 4×6 inch (10×15 cm) image — 8 at 35×45 mm, or as many as fit for other sizes. Order a 4×6 print at a pharmacy or photo kiosk and cut along the light grey lines.
