Add Movie Subtitles to a Photo

Pick a photo and a style (movie subtitle, reality show, dating show or reaction caption) and it instantly looks like a still from a film or a TV show. Tap "Random line" for a ready-made first line, and wrap a word in *asterisks* to color it. Drag the subtitle and stickers like sweat drops, hearts and speed lines anywhere on the picture, then save a PNG for an Instagram post (1080×1350), a story (1080×1920) or the photo's own shape. Your photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded. Free, no sign-up.

The four styles at a glance

StyleHow it looks
Movie subtitleBlack letterbox bars (11% of the height each) and one yellow or white subtitle line centered in the lower bar (Pretendard).
“We never went back to that street again.”
Reality showBold white text (Black Han Sans) centered near the bottom, a thick dark outline and a drop shadow. Highlighted words turn yellow.
“"Five more minutes" turned into an hour”
Dating showThin white text (Gowun Dodum) with two soft shadows. Highlighted words turn pale pink.
“(Smiling for no reason this afternoon)”
ReactionPink text (Jua) tilted 5° above the head, with a white inner outline and a dark outer outline. Highlighted words turn sky blue.
“(heart eyes)”

How to write a subtitle that lands

  • Put something small in a serious frame: "I just wanted lunch. That's all I ever wanted." works because a movie subtitle makes an ordinary moment feel epic.
  • Use one specific number: "Took 100 photos. Kept one." is funnier than "Took a lot of photos."
  • Narrate yourself like a reality show: third person and deadpan, e.g. "Opened the fridge. Closed the fridge."
  • Keep reaction captions to one or two words in parentheses, like "(shook)" or "(plot twist)", and add speed lines or a sweat drop.
  • End dating-show lines with an ellipsis, like "(And then, the tears start to fall…)", so the next scene feels like it is coming.

FAQ

How do I add movie subtitles to a photo?

Choose your photo, pick the Movie subtitle style and type one line. You get black letterbox bars on the top and bottom and a yellow (or white) subtitle in the lower bar, and you can save it as a PNG right away. No app to install and no video editor needed.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The picture is drawn in your browser on your phone or computer, and neither the photo nor the text is sent anywhere. Close the page and it is gone.

What styles can I use?

Four. Movie subtitle: letterbox bars and a single subtitle line. Reality show: bold white text with a thick outline at the bottom. Dating show: thin white text with a soft shadow, for inner thoughts in parentheses. Reaction caption: a short tilted word like "(shook)" above someone's head.

Can I make the subtitle yellow like an old movie?

Yes. In the Movie subtitle style, switch the text color between yellow and white. Words wrapped in *asterisks* take the other color, so you can highlight one word.

Can I move the subtitle or make it bigger?

Drag the subtitle or any sticker on the picture to move it. Tap it to select it, then use the Size slider (0.5x to 2x) or Delete. You can write up to 3 lines, and long lines wrap to fit the width on their own.

Which stickers are there?

Speed lines, sweat drops, hearts, sparkles, an anger mark, blush and question marks. They are drawn by us in round lines and soft colors. Picking the Reaction caption style the first time adds speed lines and a sweat drop for you, and dragging the dot in the middle of the speed lines moves where they meet.

What size is the image? Does it fit Instagram and TikTok?

Post is 1080×1350 px (4:5), story is 1080×1920 px (9:16, also right for TikTok and Reels covers), and Original keeps your photo's shape with the long side up to 2048 px. If the shapes don't match, choose Fill (crops from the center) or Fit (shows the whole photo over a blurred copy). On a phone you can share it straight from the page.

Which fonts do you use?

Free fonts under the SIL Open Font License, so you can post the images anywhere: Pretendard for movie subtitles, Black Han Sans for reality-show captions, Gowun Dodum for dating-show text and Jua for reactions. No TV network fonts, logos or show names.

My iPhone photo (HEIC) won't open. Is it free?

Photos picked from the iPhone library usually arrive as JPG, but if a HEIC file will not open in desktop Chrome, convert it first with the HEIC to JPG converter. The tool is free with no sign-up, and a small wimouniv.com mark sits in the bottom-right corner of the saved image.
