What’s inside (378 pages for 1 year)
| Page | What’s on it | Tap to go |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Index | Title, dates and topics, lines for your name and start date, 12 month boxes | Month box → that month’s list |
| 12 month lists | Every date of the month with its prompt | Date row → that day’s page |
| 365 daily pages | Big date and weekday, topic, one prompt, 14 writing lines (4 per year on 3-year, 3 per year on 5-year) | Date → its month list |
| Every page | Side tabs: Index and Jan–Dec | Tab → that page |
Pages use the A5 proportion (drawn at 1240×1754 px), so they fill a portrait GoodNotes page; the A4 file is the same layout, only larger. The 3- and 5-year versions add a February 29 page (379 pages), and a 1-year journal that starts today splits the first and last month, so it has one more month list.
1, 3 or 5 years?
The 1-year journal gives every day a full page with 14 lines, good if you like to write about the whole day. Each page is dated, so missed days are easy to see.
The 3- and 5-year journals put one box per year on the same dated page. You answer the same prompt every year and see last year’s answer right above, which is the whole fun of a five-year journal. The boxes are small, so a line or two a day keeps it going.

FAQ
Is this one question a day journal PDF really free?
Yes. There is no email gate or account. The PDF is built in your browser and the file is never uploaded (we only count anonymous usage, like which format people download), and you can make as many versions as you like.
Where do the prompts come from?
They are 375 original prompts written for this page, 75 per topic, not copied from any published journal. Each one points at a scene, an object or a number ("What screen did you stare at the longest today?") so it is easy to answer in a few lines, and no two prompts lead to the same answer.
If I pick only one topic, is the whole year that topic?
Each topic has 75 prompts, so with one topic you get 75 days of it, spread evenly through the year, and the other days are filled from the remaining topics. That way no prompt repeats within the year. Pick all five to get an even mix.
How does the 3-year or 5-year journal work?
Each date gets one page with 3 (or 5) answer boxes. This year you answer in the first box, next year on the same date you answer the same prompt in the second box, and you can see how your answer changed. Each box starts with a "20__" blank for the year; weekdays are left out because they change every year. February 29 is included, so it is 366 pages.
How do I import it into GoodNotes? The links don’t work.
On iPad Safari, tap "Send to GoodNotes" and choose GoodNotes from the share sheet. If you downloaded the file, open it from the Files app and share it to GoodNotes, or use + → Import inside GoodNotes. A tap with the pen writes instead of following the link, so tap with your finger or switch to read-only mode.
Can I print it? What size is it?
Choose A5 (5.8 × 8.3 in) or A4. They have the same proportions, so the layout is identical and only the paper size changes. For a ring binder or a half-letter planner, print the A5 file at actual size; two pages per sheet fit on one A4 or US Letter page.
I fell behind. Do I need to catch up on missed days?
No. Every page is dated, so empty days are easy to spot, but you can skip them or answer the prompt from today’s point of view. In GoodNotes, tap a date on the month list to jump straight to today.
