Mini CD Keychain Template Maker

A good insert for the Daiso mini CD keychain and similar 2-inch ones is a front cover of two 40×40 mm panels (80×40 mm, folded in half), a back of two 49×37 mm panels with a 4.5 mm spine, and a 38 mm disc with a 6 mm center hole. Add a photo, album title and tracklist and you get exactly that as an A4 or Letter PDF and a 4×6 inch photo print. Your photo is drawn in this browser and never uploaded.

The Daiso CD keychain package lists a 47 mm wide back, a 5 mm spine and a 39 mm disc, but a maker who tested it (see the size reference below) found the back comes out short and the disc sits tight that way. This tool defaults to their corrected 49×37 mm back, 4.5 mm spine and 38 mm disc with a 6 mm center hole. It is an unofficial template, not affiliated with Daiso.

How to use it

  1. 1

Add a photo (optional) and type the album title, artist and tracklist. Drag to move the photo and use the slider to zoom.

  2. 2

Pick a size under "Size" — the snug maker fit or the package guide. Keychains vary by about 1 mm, so you can nudge the front, back, spine and disc in 0.5 mm steps to match a ruler.

  3. 3

Hit "Download PDF" and print at actual size (100%), or save the 4×6 photo PNG for a drugstore kiosk. Cut along the grey lines and fold along the dashes.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a mini CD keychain template?

The default here (maker-corrected fit) is a front cover of two 40×40 mm panels (80×40 mm unfolded), a back of two 49×37 mm panels, a 4.5 mm spine in three strips, a 38 mm disc and a 6 mm center hole. The package guide says a 47 mm wide back, 5 mm spine and 39 mm disc, but a maker who tested it found the back comes out short and the disc tight that way, so this tool uses their corrected 49 mm, 38 mm and 4.5 mm spine. It is an unofficial template, not affiliated with Daiso.

How do I print it at the right size?

Set the print scale to "Actual size" or 100%, not "Fit to page". Every PDF page has a 2-inch ruler at the bottom, so you can check with a ruler before cutting. Printing from a computer is usually more accurate than from a phone.

Can I use a 4×6 photo print from a drugstore kiosk?

Yes. The "4×6 photo PNG" is a 152×102 mm (landscape 4×6 inch) image at 300 dpi, so a pharmacy or supermarket kiosk prints it at true size with plenty of resolution. Turn off any fit-to-page, auto-enlarge or borderless setting on the kiosk, and check that the front cover measures 40 mm on the first print.

How do I cut the center hole?

The disc center is drawn as a 6 mm circle. A standard 1/4-inch single-hole punch is about 6.35 mm and works well. Punch the hole first, glue the disc into the case, then trim the outer edge. A white ring is drawn around the hole so the cut looks clean.

How do I fold the insert?

Fold the front cover in half along the center dash and slip it inside the lid. Fold the back strip along the dashes between the panels and fit it into the lower slot, so the spine strips show along the case edge. Small dashed ticks outside each piece mark every fold line.

Will it fit other mini CD keychains?

Yes. Keychains vary by about 1 mm, so use the − and + buttons under "Size" to match the front, back, spine and disc in 0.5 mm steps. The defaults are for the Daiso one, so measure any other case with a ruler and adjust.

Is it free, and is my photo stored?

It is free and needs no sign-up. Your photo and text are drawn entirely in this browser and are never uploaded to a server. Reloading the page clears the photo you added.

Can I link a playlist with an NFC tag?

Yes. Stick an NFC tag on the back of the disc or inside the case and write your Spotify or YouTube Music playlist link to it, then tap a phone to play. The template does not print the tag, so add it after gluing the insert in.
