One letter per flag. HAPPY BIRTHDAY (13 letters plus one picture flag) takes 14 pages large or 7 pages small, and hangs about 10 ft (large) or 7 ft (small) wide with an inch of space between flags.

How to make the banner

  1. Download the PDF and print on Letter (or A4) paper with scaling set to "Actual size". Cardstock keeps flags flat.
  2. Cut along the outer edge of each flag. The margin with the page number and site address goes in the recycling.
  3. Punch the two small circles near the top of each flag.
  4. Thread the flags in number order onto twine, ribbon or yarn, then tape or tack the ends to the wall.

Picking a theme

  • Halloween: orange, charcoal and cream with a pumpkin for each space — classroom parties and trick-or-treat porches.
  • Christmas: red, green, cream and gold with a little tree — mantels, Sunday school and holiday parties.
  • Birthday: five pastels with hearts — works for names and first-birthday banners too.
  • Coloring: black-and-white outlines so kids can each color a letter of a class banner.

How to use it

  1. Type your banner text or tap an example (HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY HALLOWEEN, MERRY CHRISTMAS…). Each letter becomes one flag, and every space gets a little picture flag.
  2. Choose the flag shape, theme, font and size (one or two flags per sheet). The preview above shows the banner hanging on a string as you go.
  3. Tap "Download PDF", print at "Actual size (100%)", cut out the flags, punch the two marked holes and thread them onto twine or ribbon.

FAQ

Is this printable banner really free?

Yes — no account, no email, no watermark. The small page number and site address sit outside the flag, so they disappear when you cut it out. The letter fonts (Jua, Gaegu, Black Han Sans) are licensed under the SIL Open Font License and the pictures are our own simple drawings, so the banner is fine for parties, classrooms, church events and shop displays.

How big are the banner letters?

On US Letter, "1 per sheet" pennants are 7.7×9.4 in, circles are 7.7 in across and ribbons are 6.9×9.6 in. "2 per sheet" pennants are 5.0×6.1 in and use half the paper. On A4 the large pennant is 19×23.2cm. Print at "Actual size" rather than "Fit to page" to get these exact sizes.

How many pages will my banner be?

One flag per letter, so "1 per sheet" needs as many pages as flags and "2 per sheet" needs half. HAPPY BIRTHDAY is 13 letters plus one picture flag for the space: 14 pages large, 7 pages small. The page count is shown under the preview.

Can I make a name banner or use numbers and symbols?

Yes. Type a name, an age ("HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY") or any phrase — letters, numbers, ! and ♥ all work, and you can make up to 40 flags at once. Turn off "Picture flag for spaces" if you want the words to run together without picture flags.

Is there a coloring version for kids?

Pick the "Coloring" theme to get black-and-white flags with outlined letters. It is a good classroom or party activity: each child colors a letter, then you string the whole banner together. It also saves printer ink.

What paper should I print on?

Regular printer paper works, but 65–110 lb cardstock holds its shape much better if the banner will hang for a while. Colored themes look best on white; the coloring version also looks great on kraft paper.

How do I hang the banner?

The two small circles near the top of each flag are hole marks. Punch them, then thread twine in through the front of one hole and out through the other so the flags do not slide. No hole punch? Fold the top edge over the string and tape it.

Is anything I type uploaded?

No. The banner is drawn right in your browser and the text never leaves your device. The PDF and preview image save straight to your phone or computer.
